About us
Guts UK is the national charity for the digestive system, and our mission is to improve the lives of the millions of people affected by digestive conditions across the UK.
Our digestive systems have been underfunded, undervalued and misunderstood for decades. Guts UK exists to change that.
Our three main areas of work are:
- Information and support
- Public education and awareness
- Research and PPIE
Information and support
We believe that information is power and when armed with information they can trust, people can take control of their health and make informed decisions. We provide information and support for more than 40 digestive conditions and symptoms. Our dedicated Helpline provides information, guidance and signposting over the phone and online.
Public education and awareness
Our research shows that more than half of people are embarrassed to talk about their digestive conditions and symptoms and would delay seeking advice if they needed it. It's vital that we improve public awareness and education surrounding our guts; creating better knowledge and understanding around digestive conditions and symptoms and when to seek help.
Research and PPIE (public and patient involvement and engagement)
Guts UK is the only UK charity funding research into the whole digestive system. We've invested more than £16million into research projects so far, and we won't stop there. Working with people affected by digestive conditions is at the heart of what we do; ensuring that the experiences and views of patients, families and carers are considered throughout all areas of our work.
